The problem

Every ed-tech landing page in India promises a career. Buyers in tier-2 and tier-3 cities have been burned enough times that promises no longer convert — and they are being asked to pay ₹5,000 upfront on that promise.

The approach

I built the page around proof rather than claim. Instructors lead with where they worked, not what they teach. Outcomes carry a name, a company and a salary band. Cohorts show a date and seats remaining, so the decision has a real deadline instead of a manufactured one.

What shipped

A five-page platform where discovery, credibility and enrolment sit on one continuous path — category browse, instructor profiles, named outcome stories, and dated cohorts with live seat counts.

Process

How it came together

Trust audit

Studied why ed-tech pages under-convert in tier-2 India and traced it to unfalsifiable claims stacked on unfalsifiable claims.

Proof hierarchy

Ranked every available proof type by how easily it could be faked, and led with the hardest to fake.

Discovery design

Built search-first browsing with four categories, since buyers arrive with a named skill in mind.

Enrolment path

Connected browse, instructor, outcome and cohort into a single uninterrupted decision path across five pages.

Institutional rather than playful. The visual register had to feel closer to a university than a bootcamp, because trust was the thing being sold.

Key screens

What each screen has to do

Search-first hero

A search field with trending topics, plus live learner count.

Design note

Buyers arrive knowing the skill they want. Search beats browse when intent is already formed.

Instructor profiles

Each instructor leads with prior employer and student count.

Design note

'ex-Razorpay & Flipkart' does more persuading than any course description. Credential first, curriculum second.

Outcomes

Named students, real companies, salary bands.

Design note

Anonymous testimonials read as fabricated. Attaching a name, a city and an employer is what makes the number believable.

Cohort schedule

Dated batches with seats remaining and live/recorded format.

Design note

Scarcity is real — cohorts have capacity. Showing the actual count avoids the fake-countdown pattern that erodes trust.

Design decisions

What got cut, and why

Social proof

Rejected

Star ratings and anonymous quote carousels, the ed-tech default.

Shipped

Named students with employer, city, course taken and salary outcome.

Why

Ratings are trivially faked and buyers know it. A checkable name attached to a company is the cheapest credibility available.

Instructor framing

Rejected

Lead with teaching experience and years in education.

Shipped

Lead with the company they came from, then their specialism.

Why

The audience is buying access to industry, not pedagogy. 'ex-Google Brain' answers the real question in two words.

Urgency

Rejected

A rolling countdown timer on a permanent discount.

Shipped

Real cohort dates with actual remaining seat counts.

Why

Fake urgency is the fastest way to lose an audience that has already been burned. Genuine capacity limits do the same job honestly.
